Roane Medical Center Receives Donation of New Clothing for Patients

Posted on December 5, 2016

Roane Medical Center recently received a generous donation from a couple community partners. Alison Savard, of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Harriman, in partnership with Thrivent Financial, worked with the hospital to provide new clothing items for patients in their care.

Many times patients in the facility, are in need of clothing. Depending on their situation, they may not have been prepared for their visit to the hospital, especially if in an emergency, or they just might not have what they need to get discharged and returned home appropriately. Sometimes these patients are sent home in gowns or staff members have traveled to local stores to purchase clothing for their patients.

Alison Savard, local Roane County resident, heard about a grant through her church to provide community service to a local organization. After her daughter was in the hospital for an emergency surgery, she noted the generosity of other community groups to that facility. Alison then turned to her church family at Redeemer Lutheran Church, and the organization that partners with them called Thrivent Financial, and was able to have enough funds to provide community service to her local hospital.

“I saw first-hand the generosity of other folks in the community when my daughter was in need,” said Alison, “I thought, we need to do something like that, so I reached out to Roane Medical Center and was happy to be able to provide something to my local facility.”

Through Alison’s organization of the initial donation to Roane Medical Center totaling $500, staff at the hospital are able to have access to the clothing in a timely manner when they identify a patient in need.

“We have an extremely giving staff at Roane Medical and an exceptionally giving community,” said Carolyn Shipley, Chief Nursing Officer at Roane Medical Center. “Alison’s gift is most definitely well received and fulfills a great need for our facility. Thank you is not enough to express how we feel about our local partners supporting our hospital. We are here for our community, and blessed to know they are here for us,” she said.

Redeemer Lutheran Church has expressed interest in replenishing the clothing when the hospital runs low on items. Their continued gifts will help a long way, in an area most would not think of first hand as something a hospital provides to patients they care for.
