Wednesday, May 11, 2011 - Covenant Health Selects Construction and Excavating Companies for Roane Replacement Hospital

Covenant Healthhas selected Rentenbach Constructors, Inc. to serve as the construction manager and Phillips & Jordan, Inc. as the excavating company for the new hospital to replace the current Roane Medical Center, now located in downtown Harriman.

“Rentenbach Constructors has collaborated with Covenant Health on other major projects in Loudon, Anderson, Knox and Sevier counties. They have managed the construction of hospitals across the country, and we are fortunate that this East Tennessee-based company is available to provide nationally recognized construction management,” said Tony Spezia, chief executive officer of Covenant Health.

“Their work is something to be admired, and we look forward to collaborating with them on the construction of a modern, new facility for the communities of Roane County,” said Jim Gann, chief administrative officer of Roane Medical Center.

Covenant Health selected Phillips & Jordan, Inc. to serve as the excavating company for the new Roane hospital. Phillips & Jordan will clear the approximately 64 acres of land that has been secured for the new medical center campus. Phillips & Jordan, Inc. has provided excavating services nationwide since 1952. Their services include land clearing, earth-moving, underground utilities, erosion control, storm drainage and debris management.

“We are excited for Phillips & Jordan to join our team for the new hospital. We value their expertise on providing a clear and secure spot for a new medical center,” said Gann.

The new building will be built on Roane State Highway in Midtown near Pinnacle Point, a commercial shopping center located just off the Harriman/Midtown exit of Interstate 40.

Site preparation has begun and will continue throughout the summer as crews re-contour the land and level the surface. Because extensive leveling needs to be accomplished, Roane Medical Center will reschedule the on-site groundbreaking ceremony.

“There has been such overwhelming interest, excitement and support for our new hospital. We want to have the site properly prepared to accommodate the large crowd and parking needs for the event,” said Gann.

The new campus will include a state-of-the-art hospital, an adjacent new medical office building, larger and more accessible parking areas and new patient and family amenities. A key feature of the hospital includes the construction of all private rooms. The planned hospital design will enhance staff-patient interactions within each unit. It also will provide enlarged and modern nursing units, technologically-advanced surgery suites and progressive medical imaging and cardiac care services. Expanded space for future campus development over time to meet evolving patient care needs is also built into the project design.

Roane Medical Center, a member of Covenant Health, offers personalized patient care through its quality medical and surgical services, emergency services, prevention programs, rehabilitation support and health education. The hospital staff has extensive expertise in specialized services that include diagnostic imaging, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and many others.
