are busier than ever with major construction milestones near completion.
With mass grading nearly complete, the 64 acres of land have been recontoured and leveled to accommodate the 155,000 square foot medical center campus that will include a state-of-the-art hospital, an adjacent new medical office building, and large and easily accessible parking areas.
Steel construction is underway with crews anticipating completion by early December. Additional steel was ordered for the medical office building, which is being extended 6,000 square feet from its original size to accommodate Roane Medical Center’s growing staff of physicians and healthcare professionals. Crews also have already started laying brick on the medical office building.
“What once was a vision of a new medical center is now a reality as more and more of the building goes up and plans are finalized,” said Jim Gann, president and chief administrative officer of Roane Medical Center. “We now are selecting designs and vendors for other aspects of the hospital such as landscaping, kitchen equipment and way-finding signs for both the campus and inside the hospital.”
Other construction projects underway at the new medical center campus include application of masonry skin to the second story of the hospital, as well as pouring of concrete slab floors for the various hospital departments. The intensive care unit and emergency department floors already are in progress.
The new campus is under construction on Roane State Highway in Midtown near Pinnacle Point, a commercial shopping center located just off the Harriman/Midtown exit of Interstate 40.
A key feature of the hospital includes all private rooms. The planned hospital design will enhance staff-patient interactions within each unit. It also will provide enlarged and modern nursing units, technologically-advanced surgery suites and progressive medical imaging and cardiac care services. Expanded space for future campus development over time to meet evolving patient care needs is also built into the project design.
