“Our healthcare certainly is changing, so we wanted to make sure future generations will have some unique historical items that are symbolic of the past and present of healthcare,” said Gaye Jolly, president and chief administrative officer of Roane Medical Center.
The time capsule was first revealed at the May 2 celebration event for the construction of the new hospital, where President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Spezia contributed Covenant Health’s Annual Report. The Covenant Health Annual Report highlights all of the health system’s hospitals, features the progress on Roane Medical Center and Covenant Health’s not-for-profit mission to improve the health and lives of all they serve. Other contributions into the time capsule included an example of a paper medical record, a history book of Roane Medical Center and a book given by a local student.
Other contributions have been made to the time capsule, including articles clipped from old newspapers and old employee newsletters, and a summary of the changes in nursing since 1984.
The time capsule was buried at the front of the hospital near the serenity garden. The time capsule is set to be open in 2062.
The new Roane Medical Center campus is located off Roane State Highway in Midtown near Pinnacle Point, a commercial shopping center located just off the Harriman/Midtown exit of Interstate 40.
